Happy Hump Day!
I see and hear a lot of comments from parents and coaches:
“I want my daughter/player to get quicker”
“I want my daughter/player to jump higher”
“I signed my daughter up for a speed camp”
And my answer to all of this, does your daughter/ player strength train and has she been taught how to land properly and decelerate?
Getting quicker, working on your footwork is great, but the only way to really get quicker and improve your footwork is to get stronger and have a great starting base (foundation)
You want your athletes to jump higher, awesome! But they need to come down and land, have you taught them how to land properly so we don’t have any injuries and their knees craving in?
The sports performance pyramid starts with foundational movements, then performance then skill
So, let’s start training out athlete like this 🙂
In this video, I go over teaching acceleration first with the resistance band
We know that most athletes do not tear their ACL accelerating
Tomorrow, I will be back focusing on decelerating and teaching the girls how to control their movement
Your friend and coach,
